Sometimes I even measure an existing frame with a ruler before ordering anything new. If a website gives a detailed guide for measurements, I feel more confident when ordering. Jewelry is another category where quality can be very different from photos. I have learned to avoid items that look extremely different in every product photo. Good stitching usually means the item will not fall apart after one or two washes. Now I try to read as many real user reviews as possible before I buy anything.

It saves a lot of trial and error for everyone else. If the first order is a disaster, I prefer to move on and not waste time with support. The main things I look at for glasses are frame weight, hinge quality and lens coating. For light summer tops I keep to my normal size to avoid a baggy look. Footwear is even harder because different brands cut shoes very differently. Smaller shops can be surprisingly friendly if they care about repeat customers. I also think about how easy it is to track a parcel once it ships.
